DRUG ADDICTION (nothing but a curse)

When a person finds pleasure in taking drugs, we call it drug addiction. An addicted person finds pleasure only for a very short time but it badly affects his body and mind. Gradually s/he feels drowsy, lose appetite and become weak. Drugs also damage the brain and all internal function of the body. Obviously, drug addiction is now a global problem. This social cancer has spread its poisonous claws all over the world. Frustration is one of the causes of drug addiction. Unemployment problem, political cataclysm, lack of family ties, lack of love, affection etc give rise to frustration. Again drug addiction gives rise to social crimes. When the addicted cannot afford to buy drugs, they commit many kinds of social crimes like hijacking, looting, plundering, kidnapping, killing, robbery etc. However, this curse should not be allowed to go unchecked. We must get rid of this social cancer at any cost.

No More Absorption in Edu Cadre

Nationalization of the non-government primary or secondary or higher secondary institutions is a continuous development project of the present Awami League led government. It deserves appreciation from all walks of life. We, the officers of general education cadre, are not against this ongoing process.

Rather, we welcome the government for taking necessary steps to nationalize some institutions. More than three hundreds non-government colleges would be nationalized within the shortest possible time.

It is ok. There is absolutely nothing wrong. We would feel happier if all the educational institutions were nationalized.

But we who belong to BCS education cadre have only one objection. Government should not allow any more absorption in education cadre.

Nationalization of the teachers and absorption of them in cadre service are two different issues. A BCS cadre officer had to go a long way and suffer a lot for facing the Public Service Comission (PSC). S/he had to pass many sleepless nights to overcome preliminary test, written exams, viva-voce and finally medical test and police investigation. In some cases, s/he had to sit for the BCS exam several times. After winning the stiff battle, s/he becomes a cadre officer.

On the contrary, a non-government college teacher is appointed just by passing facing a test taken by Non-government Teachers Rregistration and Certification Authority (NTRCA). It is known to all that some teachers donate more than one million taka for their recruitments. Local political leaders and the managing committee also try to influence their recruitment process.

Why and how can a cadre officer and a nationalized teacher be given equal opportunity whereas they are appointed through two different ways?

Last but not the least, nobody should any longer be allowed to become a cadre officer without sitting for BCS exam.

Water-logging

Water-logging has become a very common affair in our country particularly in the rainy season. Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, and Chittagong, the port city, are the worst victims of water-logging. If it rains in torrent for around two to three hours, water-logging is a must in the major cities. Unplanned urbanization, poor drainage system, huge wastes of mills and factories are mainly responsible for water-logging. Transportation becomes rare to move from one place to anotherThe city dwellers are to face untold sufferings. The students, office goers, the commuters become compelled to wade through the filthy water. It kills their valuable times. The city people are also attacked by the various diseases caused by water-logging. General people will have to leave the major cities unless the concerned authorities find any solution to this fatal problem.

A Rainy Day

There are six seasons in Bangladesh. Rainy season (āĻŦāϰ্āώাāĻ•াāϞ) is one of them. Rain is very much common in the rainy season. Rain has a big appeal (āφāĻŦেāĻĻāύ) to the poets, novelists (āĻ”āĻĒāύ্āϝাāϏিāĻ•) and lovers. A rainy day gives us some relief from monotony (āĻāĻ•āϘেāϝ়ে/ āύিāϰāϏ). The farmers wait for rain as it makes the soil more cultivable (āϚাāώāϝোāĻ—্āϝ). But excessive rain (āĻ…āϤি āĻŦৃāώ্āϟি) causes untold sufferings (āĻ…āĻŦāϰ্āĻŖāύীāϝ় āĻ•āώ্āϟ). The poor are the worst sufferers (āϏāĻŦāϚেāϝ়ে āĻ­ুāĻ•্āϤāĻ­োāĻ—ী) of a rainy day. They cannot go outside for their livelihood (āϜীāĻŦিāĻ•া). They are to sit idle (āĻ…āϞāϏ āĻŦāϏে āĻĨাāĻ•āϤে āĻšāϝ়) at home.

Rain in Nature

In a rainy day, it is seen that the students, office goers, commuters (āϝাāϤ্āϰী) have to wade through (āϝেāϤে āĻšāϝ়) knee-deep water (āĻšাāϟু āϏāĻŽাāύ āĻĒাāύি) to come back home as the rain causes waterlogging (āϜāϞাāĻŦāĻĻ্āϧāϤা). Heavy rainfall (āĻŦ্āϝাāĻĒāĻ• āĻŦৃāώ্āϟিāĻĒাāϤ) is also responsible for (āĻĻাāϝ়ী) devastating landslides (āĻŽাāϰাāϤ্āĻŽāĻ• āĻ­ূāĻŽিāϧ্āĻŦāϏ) in the hilly areas. A rainy day is very much enjoyable for the children. They enjoy bathing under the shower of rain going outside. Some kids pass their time by playing hide and seek (āϞুāĻ•োāϚুāϰি) or other indoor games with other kids. The poets are fond of (āĻĒ্āϰিāϝ়/ āĻ­াāϞোāϞাāĻ—া) watching rain. It creates romanticism and poetic feelings to compose (āϰāϚāύা āĻ•āϰা) new and newer poems. The lovers also wait for rain. It makes them nostalgic (āĻ…āϤীāϤ āϏ্āĻŽৃāϤিāĻŦিāϧুāϰ). In short, we can say that a rainy day has both positive and negative impacts (āĻĒ্āϰāĻ­াāĻŦ) on our everyday life.
